A part of the Narew river and its surrounding swamps is protected as National Park. The river slowly follows its natural course through the swamps, which means that actually it is often split into two, three or more streams beside eachother. The Narew National Park is not only the youngest of such parks in Poland, but also the smallest and least visited. Most of the very few visitors I came across seem to be locals who come to fish or to swim. Personally I got an impression of the river by canoe, the best way to really get into the area. This way I discovered the stream between two small villages: Uhowo and Waniewo.

After my visit in July, I returned to the park in the winters and spring after. In the winter the whole area was, as is usual in winter time, frozen and covered by snow.
It was actually possible to walk on the frozen river Narew. Some fishermen never get enough of their hobby. Even with 30 centimeters of
ice on their river they try to catch some fish. You'll see below...
